ABOUT VALLEY BLACKTOPPING, INC.
It was the early 1960's and an aspiring young man from a small town in northern Minnesota had just moved to the cities in search of opportunity and adventure. He took the first job he could find, working as a laborer for a large asphalt paving company. It wasn't long until he realized that this is what he wanted to do with his life.
At the age of 18 he was given the job of plant operator, making him the youngest asphalt plant operator in the Twin Cities. He ran the plant for several years, making asphalt for a number of large paving projects in the area, including the Burnsville Center when it was first built.
In 1976, with pennies in his pocket, he took out a loan and started Valley Blacktopping, Inc. In order to be successful he knew his company had to be different. With his strong work ethic, small town values and expert knowledge of the paving industry, he focused his company on providing customers with honest, quality work at a fair price.
After 47 years, of doing what he loved, Russell Johnson passed away in January of 2024. His sons Ritchy & Scott now own the company, carrying on his legacy. Together with their sons (Ryan, Kyle, Collin & Logan), they still strive to provide customers with honest, quality work at a fair price.
